The Birdcage Story

A man was on the side of the road with a large birdcage. A boy noticed that the cage was full of birds of many kinds. “Where did you get those birds?” he asked.

“Oh, all over the place,” the man replied. “I lure them with crumbs, pretend I’m their friend then when they are close, I net them and shove them into my cage.”

“And what are you going to do with them now?”

The man grinned, “I’m going to prod them with sticks, and get them mad so they fight and kill each other. Those that survive, I will kill. None will escape.”

The boy looked steadily at the man. What made him do such things? He looked into the cruel, hard eyes. Then he looked at the birds, defenseless, without hope.

“Can I buy those birds?” the boy asked.

The man hid a smile, aware that he could be on to a good thing if he played his cards right. “Well,” he said hesitantly, “The cage is pretty expensive, and I spent a lot of time collecting these birds, I’ll tell you what I’ll do, I’ll let you have the lot, birds, cage and all for ten pounds and that jacket you’re wearing.”

The boy paused, ten pounds was all he had, and the jacket was new and very special it was his prized possession. Slowly, he took out the ten pounds and handed it over, then even more slowly he took off his jacket, gave it one last look then handed that over too.

And then (well, you’ve guessed it) he opened the door and let the birds go free.

The Enemy of the world, Satan, was on the side of life’s road with a very large cage. The man coming towards him noticed that it was crammed full of people of every kind, young, old, from every race and nation. “Where did you get these people?” the man asked.

“Oh, from all over the world,” Satan replied. “I lure them with drink, drugs, lust, lies, anger, hate, love of money, and all manner of things. I pretend I’m their friend, out to give them a good time, then when I’ve hooked them, into the cage they go.”

“And what are you going to do with them now?” asked the man.

Satan grinned. “I’m going to prod them, provoke them, get them to hate and destroy each other; I’ll stir up racial hatred, defiance of law and order; I’ll make people bored, lonely, dissatisfied, confused, and restless. It’s easy. People will always listen to what I offer them and (what’s better) blame God for the outcome!”

“And then what?” the man asked.

“Those who do not destroy themselves, I will destroy. None will escape me.”

The man stepped forward. “Can I buy these people from you?” he asked.

Satan snarled, “Yes, but it will cost you your life.”

So Jesus Christ, the Son of God, paid for your release, your freedom from Satan’s trap, with His own life, on the cross at Calvary. The door is open, and anyone, whom Satan has deceived and caged, can be set free.

Who Is Satan

The reason for writing this paper on Satan is to provide a brief history of who he is, his history, his current status, his future, and his purpose. His primary mission and goal are to try to hurt God and us His children, as much as he can before his time is finally up. If we know who he is, how and why he operates the way he does, and the methods he uses to lure men and women into sin, we can become better armed with the knowledge to help us understand what we are up against and how to defeat him.

Satan, the enemy of God and man

Satan as demonstrated below; is the arch-enemy of God and man. Once the most exalted among angels, Satan became filled with pride and self-worship then attempted to position himself above his creator the living God in a failed coup d’tat.

History of Satan: Past – Present Future

Before Satan became Satan, his name was Lucifer. He was created by God and was once the most powerful angel in Heaven being unparalleled in beauty and splendor.

What the book of Ezekiel says of Lucifer:

You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14 You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth amid fiery stones. 15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. Ezekiel 28:12-15

Lucifer was created by God as a perfect angel who was above all other angels in heaven. His appearance was beautiful and dazzling, he radiated light and glory and he was covered with gold and shimmering jewels. Lucifer was then the chief covering angel and he worked in the throne room of God.

Lucifer became proud:

The Word of God tells us that Lucifer became filled with pride because of his glory and wisdom, and began to think of himself as being above God. Big mistake!

In Ezekiel we read of Lucifer: “Your heart was lifted because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. Ezekiel 28:17

Eventually, Lucifer became entrenched in his pride and God could no longer influence him. God reluctantly removed Lucifer from his position of chief covering angel. Lucifer was then cast out of Heaven along with one-third of the angels who had chosen to follow him.

The fall of Lucifer: In Isaiah chapter 14 we read; 12 How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Highest. Isaiah 14:12-14

History of Satan future

Satan is alive and real and he got the name Satan after he was expelled from heaven. Satan and his angels are also known as demons. They live in the spirit world and they tempt and influence people on earth

Satan has many names. He is also called the devil, Dragon, Serpent, Beelzebub, Abaddon, Apollyon, and many other names. The names of Satan list many of his names from the Bible. See Names of Satan page:

History of Satan future

Satans future is very clear. Near the end of this age, Satan will reveal himself in the form of a great world leader called the beast, or the anti-Christ.

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.? Revelation 13:1

Satan will be given 3 years as the visible god of this world. During this time he will try to convince every person on earth to worship him but do not be deceived. He is not God and he should not be worshipped.

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or his hand, 10 he shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and the presence of the Lamb. Revelation 14:9-10

History of Satan ultimate end

Satans time and influence on earth are running out, and the Word of God is very clear about his fate. In the last 3 years of this age before the second coming of our Lord, Satan will have one last fling at ultimate power and will reveal himself in human form as the anti-Christ, masquerading as the most powerful political leader in the history of the world. At the end of this last 3 year period of the Great Tribulation, he will be cast into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years and will not be permitted to influence and tempt the people of the world during this period, the 1000 year reign of Christ on earth.

1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things, he must be released for a little while. Revelation 20:1-3

At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released from the bottomless pit for a short time. He will gather the wicked together and they will fight against God and His people one last time. God will bring fire down from heaven to destroy the wicked. Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, for all eternity, forever ending his influence in the world.

7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:7-10

The universe will be eternally secure from sin and Satan. Sin will never rise again.

9 What do you conspire against the LORD? He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise a second time. Nahum 1:9
